Your Kid Has a Business Idea… Now What? 🍋
Maybe your kid has been talking about starting a business. Maybe they already have a lemonade stand and are ready to take it on the road. Or maybe they just love making bracelets, drawing pictures, baking cookies, collecting cool things, or coming up with BIG ideas.
Here’s our advice:
Don’t overthink it. And definitely don’t feel like you have to go big.
At Lemonade Lane Kids Market, we believe some of the best kid businesses start with one simple idea and a whole lot of excitement.
Start With What Your Kid Already Loves
Before you start ordering supplies, designing a logo, or building the world’s most elaborate booth, ask your kid:
“What would be FUN for you to sell or do?”
Think about what they already enjoy.
Do they make friendship bracelets for everyone they know? Sell bracelets.
Are they constantly drawing? Offer live drawings.
Do they love picking out cool toys or accessories? Try reselling.
Have they mastered the neighborhood lemonade stand? Bring it to the Lane!
Love face paint, hair tinsel, sports cards, slime, plants, baked goods, crafts or something completely different? Start there.
The goal isn't to create the perfect business. It's to give your child the opportunity to try something.
Keep the First Booth SIMPLE
You don't need a Pinterest-perfect booth to be successful.
Start with the basics:
A table and tablecloth
A sign with the business name
Clearly marked prices
An easy way for customers to pay
A manageable amount of product
A few fun decorations
One excited kid entrepreneur!
That's enough.
You can always add banners, displays, packaging and other fun details later. Let the business grow with your kid.
Let THEM Be the Entrepreneur
Parents, this one can be hard. 😉
Your kid's sign might not be perfectly straight. Their prices might need adjusting. Their sales pitch might start with a very quiet, “Do you want to buy something?”
That's okay!
The magic happens when they get to do it.
Let them help decide what to sell. Let them set up their booth. Encourage them to greet customers, explain their products, collect payments and say thank you.
We're not looking for perfect little businesses.
We're creating a place for kids to learn how business works by actually doing it.
Start Small. Learn. Then Grow.
Maybe they sell out.
Maybe they don't.
Maybe they discover everyone LOVES one product and completely ignores another.
That's business!
Every market gives kids an opportunity to learn something they can use the next time.
They can ask:
What sold? What didn't? What did customers ask for? What should I make differently next time?
That's where the real learning happens.
